mount DNS-323 formatted HD into PC?

Can I connect a DNS-323 formatted HD to my PC and copy files directly to the HD?

I know the fs is ext2, so I can mount it on my linux box (or XP using extfs).  But would there be a problem copying the files from within linux?  Or does the dns-323 do something else when it saves files to the HD (metadata, server logging, etc.)?

It would be much faster to copy the files to the HD this way.

Good question - I believe it's possible, but I've only tried copy files from the disk (using ext2ifs) - so to speak as a "disaster recovery" option.
