Hi All,
I have a DNS-323 running firmware 1.06 but I have a problem with my shared drives on my WinXP.
They become un accessible from time to time and the only way out of it is to do System Restart. after that things work for few minutes and then the problem happens again.
Any one seen such a problem before?

That sounds like an ip conflict to me. Is there possibly another device on your network that is attempting to use the same ip address as the DNS-323?

Please describe how you have the NAS and the computer connected together, also which one are you restarting - the computer, the NAS, or both?

Are you connecting via the share name, or ip address? Also, do you have a login and password protecting your shares? How are you connecting the drive? Mapping it?

i have a similar issue ..
1) old wireless g router with dd-wrt
nas powered up, smb shares ok
win xp client accesses smb shares -> ok -> hibernate/shutdown/bootup -> shares ok
2) new draft n router dlink 610n (original firmware)
nas powered up, smb shares ok
win xp client accesses smb shares -> ok -> hibernate/bootup -> shares are not accessible -> connect via ssh, restart smb -> shares ok
win xp client accesses smb shares -> ok -> shutdown/bootup -> shares are not accessible -> connect via ssh not possible -> restart switch i have in between -> connect via ssh, restart smb -> shares ok
*grmpf* it seems the bullshit firmware is causing the problem

Which firmware would that be? Since the problem appears to have been introduced with the new draft n wireless router ....

i am not using wlan, just plain old cables ;-)
i believe it's an issue from the default firmware ..

And again I ask, which firmware would that be, you have NAS firmware and router firmware - and for what it's worth, I find no mention of any D-Link products with the numbers 610 in the model name.
Also - it really doesn't matter - wired or wireless - the statements in your post suggest that with the old router you had no problems, you changed the router and the problems started. What was the last thing changed - the router - it's a good place to start.
Put back the old router, if the problem goes away .... it's probably network related.

ok i was mistaken, the 610n is from linksys not dlink (dn323) ;-)
1) i cannot put the old router back on, since it was borrowed ..
2) i just added my issue to let others know that this problem is most likely a router/network problem, not a dns323 problem
3) i will try the new dd-wrt (test release) for the linksys 610n soon
