Unfortunately no one can be told what fun_plug is - you have to see it for yourself.

I just bought a DNS-323. I put 2 new 750G green drives into it, and plugged it into my Belkin router. I then run the "easyfind" software to get an IP address. No matter how many times I hit refresh, the list of addresses is blank.
I have tried:
Rebooting
Turning off firewall.
Changing a number of settings on router (like turning off WPA and ping firewall)
Calling customer support.
The customer support was AWEFUL. After going through their short script of basically asking me to reboot, and make sure things are connected, she asked me for the make of my router. Once I told her it was Belkin, she gave me a reference number, to have a nice day, and goodbye!
Is there something easy anyone can suggest? I will try anything.
I access my Belkin by going to the address 192.168.2.1
I know the 323 likes the address 192.168.0.32
Is the "2" the problem? Should I set that to "0"?

Does your Belkin router has a device list page that shows connected clients? You may be able to see the IP assigned to your DNS-323.

Is the DHCP function enabled on your Belkin router?

I will check. Do I want this on or off?

You'll want it on.

you can try assigning a static ip to the dns. that makes it easier for ftp too.

I am not sure what this means. Assign an IP address to the 323, or a DNS number to the Belkin.
What number?
Update:
DHCP server is on.
Belkin router has a device list page that shows connected clients. The 323 is not one it. Only ONCE did I see the mac address for the 323 on this list. I am not sure how it got there. But even then, when I hit the refresh on the "Easy Search Utility" I did not get an IP address.

I have a similar setup with a Belkin router connected with a 321. I have minimal experience with networking and linux, but IIRC, you should have DHCP on your router ON and on your 323 OFF. There should only be one device on your network assigning IP addresses, and that is usually the router.
If you want to manually assign an address, you need to make sure that your computer, router, and 323 are on the same subnet for everything to see each other, i.e. 192.168.0.xxx or 192.168.2.xxx, etc. (I found this out the hard way while trying to establish a wirelss bridge between 2 Belkin routers.)
Hope this helps.

Update:
I now have the DNS-323 listed on the router's DHCP list.
I can also ping the DNS-323.
I still have only black on the "Network Storage Device" table of the Easy Search Utility.
Even putting IP:192.168.2.5, Netmask: 255.255.255.0, Gateway: 192.168.2.1 and disabling receive DHCP still gives me a black when I hit refresh.
Any other ideas?

monkey3 - what is it you're trying to do?
The EasySearch is - strictly speaking - not necessary for most of the functions required of the NAS, and there may be ways to do what you want without it.
There is a possibility, that your AV software or firewall could be blocking it.

I think you are right. I tried something new!
I have successfully used the web interface to access the NAS.
When I type 198.168.2.5 in firefox, I go right to the NAS!
While there, I setup the NAS, gave it a password, formatted my 2 drives in Raid-1.
I did not see the NAS as a mapped drive on my machine, so I ran the Network wizard on my XP. It created a MSHOME workgroup. I changed my NAS workgroup to MSHOME.
Still no mapped drive.
I created a folder on the NAS, a user, and a group that had read/write access to that folder.
Still, I can't see the NAS from my XP's explorer.
EasySearch is still coming up with nothing, but I am no longer using it.
I feel I am close, and just need that last little help.

Open My Computer, you should see My Network Places on the left, right click on it and select Map Network Drive from the resulting menu - select a drive letter, for the folder enter \\192.168.2.5\Volume_1, check Reconnect at logon, and click OK.

@monkey3
A few things on how to set up a NAS:
1. If you already have a DHCP server in your network DON'T use the Easy Search Utility. As far as I know this utility has its own built in DHCP server. Can you imagine what happens if you put two DHCP servers in one flat network? Well, the NAS will get two offers for its DHCP Discover message. On a sunny day it might take the one from the Belkin router, if it's windy it might take the one from the Easy Search Utility, on your birthday it might take the one from the Belkin again... You get the point, don't you? Usually it will take the first offer but you can't tell which server will respond first.
The Easy Search Utility is nice to connect your PC directly to the NAS so the utility is the only DHCP server to provide an IP address to the NAS. In this situation you should see the NAS in Easy Search. You could access the web interface of the NAS then and configure it for a fixed IP address for example.
You don't need that because you have your Belkin router that tells you which IP address it gave to your DNS-323.
2. Name Resolution - it is good that you created a workgroup where both your PC and NAS belong to. This will be used for "Netbios Name Resolution" which is a Microsoft mechanism for doing name resolution in Microsoft networks. It uses broadcast messages to advertize a machines identity to the network and elect a browser master which will keep a database of the devices which are attached to the network. Unfortunately it doesn't work as well as it should and it takes some time after bootup of a machine before it is known to the network.
If you just changed the workgroup name then I suggest rebooting the NAS and the PC and hopefully it will work afterwards.
A much better and reliable way of doing name resolution in a network is the use of the Domain Name Service (DNS). For your network your Belkin router probably is the DNS server. It will also provide name resolution for Internet addresses by forwarding DNS requests to another DNS server on the Internet.
I doubt that it will provide name resolution for addresses located in your internal network. You can have a look at the router configuration if you find settings for a "local domain" and something like "provide name resolution for DHCP addresses" but usually small home user products don't have this functionality.
That means that you will probably have to stick with Netbios Name Resolution and I hope that it works for you.

Wow. Thanks you all very much. A special thanks goes to those who helped a few times.
Thanks for the lesson on Name Resolution. This is all new to me.
fordem, Your advice was on the money. I mapped the \\192.168.2.5\Volume_1 drive, and could not get it to work until I disabled Zonealarm. Still it wouldn't work because unbeknown to me, ESET antivirus also has a firewall. Once I verified it worked with both disabled, I turned the FWs back on while allowing my NAS.
Thanks you all so much for the help. This was real hard for me. I hope others can make use of this knowledge as well.

I had a similar issue as monkey3 but it still doesnt allow me to map the drive I tried what fordem suggested and was hoping it would work but still no luck. When i try to map the drive from the easy search it asks for a login and password. I never set one up to the dns -323. i tried my router password and the admin one as well still nothing. any other suggestions. my firmware is updated I have the latest version of easy search. I have a rep from dlink calling me back sometime. but ive been trying to figure this thing out for over 3 months.

LIBRYUM - your "issue" seems to be quite different to monkey3's - his problem was that EasySearch could not find the unit - you can finf the unit but not map a drive to it.
Your problem appears to be one of permissions - what OS are you using?
