raid 1 on different drives

i have not understand if i can use two different drives on raid 1, for instance one 250GB and one 1TB drives and obtain 250 GB on raid 1 (mirrored) and 750GB of remainig space on non mirrored configuration?

is there any way to do so?

Re: raid 1 on different drives

Assuming that the DNS-323 supports 1TB disks - yes.

By default, if you configure for RAID1, the DNS-323 will allow you to create a mirrored drive of any capacity up to the full size of the smaller drive, and it will then create a single spanned drive with the remaining space.

In your case, you will use the full capacity of the smaller drive 250 GB for Volume_1, and the remaining space, 750 GB for Volume_2.

Re: raid 1 on different drives

The early firmware (1.01) did not support the 750 GB Seagates - see http://support.dlink.com/faq/view.asp?p … on=DNS-323 for details.

I'm not suggesting that 1TB drives aren't supported, just that newer stuff might (or might not) need a firmware upgrade.
