DNS-323 fails to connect
hey guys, i'm newbie here.
i am having some problem with my dns 323. I connected my 323 to my laptop via the LAN cable. However, it does not detect a link between the two. I thought it was my laptop problem, then I tried with another computer, same thing happened.
So I tried reseting my 323, and it does not fix my problem.
So I am wondering what's going on.
Is there any possibilities that the LAN for 323 spoil?

You can't connect two computer devices with a straight LAN cable unless they are able to automatically cross send and receive direction. Looks like your components are not able to do that. You need to use a crossover network cable or plug your devices into a network switch using straight network cables.

connecting between xp or vista is easy, just need a normal LAN cable and assign fixed IPs for the PC, eg 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.0.2.
I would also like to know if it's possible to connect to the DNS-323 and a xp/vista using normal LAN, or do we need a crossover.
Also does anyone knows what will happen if, assuming my LAN is 192.168.1.x, but I mistakenly assign a fixed IP (eg 192.168.2.1 - invalid subnet) for the DNS using the web interface, is it possible to rectify the error. Will pressing the reset change the fix IP back to DHCP?

I have tried connecting DNS via router. It used to work. but all of sudden it does not.... dont know why. the LED that shows there is a link it not light up when you connect the LAN cable.

The DNS-321 & 323 both have gigabit ports and will work in a direct connect situation either with or without a cross-over cable.
