1.06 Update on DNS-323 Problem

Hi,

I got a DNS-323 which, so far, ran 1.05 firmware. Roaming here and there on the net, I read a new firmware was available so I decided to download it and update the DNS. So I did.

Now, I'm stuck on the TOOLS page with the following info and messages:

>Firmware Version : 1.05
>Firmware Date : 05/05/2008
>File Path : C:\Users\(...)\dns323_firmware_106

>Warning : Firmware update is in progress.
>Please don't restart or power off the DNS-323

The info about the firmware is obviously the one I had from the beginning.
The message saying 'update in progress' and not to shut it down has been on the page for over an hour now.
The network led blinks lightly and that's about it. It looks and is, de facto, stuck, unless the process is real long which I don't know but I must admit I have updated lot of firmwares but none of them was 7 MB like this one.
The power was and is stable. Had no problem. The network is fine too as far as I can tell. Right now I have no acces at all to the dns. The admin page through the browser doesn't work. FTP access is no better.

Of course, I have data I don't want to loose at all on the drives inside.

I'm prepared to leave the things that way for the entire night but I'd like to know a few things in case it doesn't get better in the morning.

Is the update process usually that long or not ?
What if I'm still stuck ? What should I do ? I must admit the possibility to loose the data doesn't help me to think.

Anyway any hint very much appreciated. Thank you.

Re: 1.06 Update on DNS-323 Problem

Worse case scenario, the DNS gets bricked.  The data on the unit will not be effected.  The firmware update only changes the files in the flash memory of the DNS, not anything on the hard drives.
