Hi,
I've always had problems with mapping drives - 4 out of 5 times, the DNS kept asking me for username/password (looks like a standard problem here on the forum...).
When talking to DLink's support, they told me to reset to factory settings and I did... The mapping problem didn't disappear, but another thing happened...
I'm using Swedish characters in some of my filenames and directory names and after resetting to factory settings (and checking localization in Easy Search), none of my directories or files with Swedish هنِ-characters are visible in Explorer - ouch...
I thought that these files were lost forever, for some strange reason, but when I tried to delete a directory and it didn't disappear from Explorer, I thought that maybe I was on to something. After activating the FTP-daemon, I ftp:ed into the DNS (with XPs "DOS FTP") and there they were - all directories and files where there, with Swedish characters and everything. If I use any other FTP client, the Swedish characters are replaced by other characters, so I can't just download them "as is" and still get the filenames.
How come that the files aren't visible in Explorer (XP/Vista) but that I can see them if I log in via FTP, and what can I do to get them back?
If I try to, I can create new files with هنِ in the names, but the old ones are hidden.
Please help... Is there any way to get my "invisible" files back, without first FTP:ing them to a local drive, replacing all strange characters with the correct ones and then put them back on the DNS-323 via Explorer?
The latest firmware in Sweden is 1.02b... No new version in sight.
Thanks,
ForestC

Hi,
I had the same problem...
If you login to the DNS-323 by telnet (using fun_plugs) you can rename the files directly.
They should then be visible in Explorer.

Hi lovgren,
Thanks for the tip . I've also thought about ftp:ing the files down to a local disk, renaming them by "Bulk Rename Utility" or similar so. I've got thousands and thousands of file so manually renaming them sounds like it's going to take a while...
Yesterday I got an email from support telling me to upgrade the firmware to 1.03 and that should do the trick, but I've tried that without success...
I've had other problems with the unit as well so I'm actually thinking of returning it to DLink, but I'll call the fantastic (irony) support tomorrow to see what their next move is.
