DNS-323 Newbie questions (yes yes, I know...)

Yesterday I joined the club of DNS-323 users and since it's the first NAS I ever owned I came here with a pile of newbie questions -and yes, I used the search function before posting this wink

1. Do I have to map the DNS-323 everytime I start up the computers? Everytime I start up the computers the NAS disappears from the My Computer.

2. I got stucked at the 94% while formatting HD too. After an hour of starring into screen the LED status light for hard drive activity on DNS-323 stopped blinking, so I assumed that the formatting completed and it's only a web interface bug, so I decided to restart it manually. After restarting DNS-323 hard drive worked perfectly though (or at least it seems like that).
I read on this forum that if this happens you recommend to take the HD out and format it in PC. Do I have to do that? Could there be any problems with the hard drive because I restarted DNS-323 at 94%?

Thanx.

Re: DNS-323 Newbie questions (yes yes, I know...)

If this is right out of the box, originally on earlier firmware 94% was a bug ( still is in some cases ). If it stopped blinking the status lights you are pretty much in the clear but make sure to update your firmware since you are probably on 1.01.

Also no you should not have to map the drives every time you logon to windows. Are you using the easy search utility to do it or windows? If your using easy search try using windows map tool.

Re: DNS-323 Newbie questions (yes yes, I know...)

then if you upgrade firmware after formatting the drive, did you format the drive again?

because it was a reason of bug for me. I removed the hard disk and remove all partition from it and put it back and i formatted it with firm 1.03 and now work like a charm

Were you originally formatted ext2 or ext3?
