PacificStorm-Alma

After some consideration I have decided not to release a Build_DSM-0,5 as it would provide no new functionality. Instead I will start a new firmware line.  Just for grins I'm calling it PacificStorm.  The major releases will be named using the 2008 NortEastern Pacific storm names (because I did not like the 2007 list), Alma Boris Cristina Douglas Elida ...

The planned major features for Alma are: Removal of all  D-Link firmware, 2.4 kernel, Busybox, Samba, NFS, IDE and USB disk, failsoft firmware update from USB-KEY, ssh.  Unless somebody to donates a Web Interface configuration will be via text interface probably until Boris.

More details to be worked out.

It's a bit early, I don't even have anything running.  I have not picked a web server, but I'll probably include the busy-box httpd.  So it's probably CGI shell scripts with some helper programs written in C.

Re: PacificStorm-Alma

Having been lost in action, I just wanted to give an update.

While I have not made a lot of progress, I do have the critical piece done to start this work, a program that will take a firmware file and program it in to flash.

I built a firmware file containing just busybox and the firmware updater.  I will test this out in the next day or two.

I notice somebody is working on a 2.6 kernel, which is great, as soon as I have a firmware load that boots with the network, I'll try the 2.6 kernel.
