rsync 1/3 the speed of ftp?

Hi,

I just bought the DNS-323 with a pair of WD greenpower 1TB drives.   I'm running firmware 1.06 and fun-plug .5 on a gigabit network.

I started using rsync to copy my files from mt PC to the DNS, but was only getting speeds of about 6MB/sec with rsync daemon running on the DNS.  With ftp, I can get speeds of about 18MB/sec.   This copying is the same data.

I'm running Ubuntu 8.04 on my PC.

This is the 1st time I ever use rsync.  Others in this forum seems to be getting better speeds with rsync.    Is there anything I can tweak to improve the speeds?

Thanks in advance.
