seems someone has ported the debian installer to work for the dns323 (& CH3NAS) if anyone is interested:

That would be me. <grin> It's useable, in theory, at the moment, if you specify sid as a package source, because the kernel that supports the SATA chipset in the rev B1 hardware isn't in lenny. I'd still recommend having a serial console on hand, just in case...

Hi Matt,
From your article:
I found (eventually) that you can just load the data into RAM somewhere and boot from there, without needing to write it to flash (also handy to avoid wasting precious write cycles)
Where in memory did you load the kernel / initrd images, and does this matter? I know the 323 is fussy about the load addresses, but not 100% sure about the relationship between these and the physical location of the images.
Just want to be sure I can test the images without any danger of flashing them until I know they work.
Thanks for the great work!

I can confirm that the netboot.img that you posted in the comments installs fine on my dns323, and I made it all the way through to writing the flash. My workstation was acting stupid and not lettings me ssh in after the install is the only problem I was having. Thanks!

i got it working as well.
one question though, is there a documented back out plan to re-flash it back to D-Link FW? i found this one http://www.cyrius.com/debian/orion/d-li … stall.html , which is the same guy who wrote the guide on how to get it installed. was just wondering if that is what you guys recommend as well?
p.s blog link isn't working anymore, at least for me.
