i'm trying to reset the 323 back to stock dlink fw, and am following the directions here:

and pulled down the files from here:

after ftp'ng both files into a directory, i run the command as instructed:
# ./splitdns323fw -k uKernel -i uRamdisk dns323_firmware_107
which then gives me this error:
-su: ./splitdns323fw: Permission denied
what am i doing wrong? i'm logged in as root

ok, changed the splitdns323fw to executable, that now gets me a step futher.
now i get this error:
-bash: ./splitdns323fw: /usr/bin/ruby: bad interpreter: No such file or directory
i then go to this page:
http://www.debian-administration.org/articles/329
which advise me to execute this command:
apt-get install ruby libzlib-ruby rdoc irb
this installs the ruby package which apparently is needed, i then try again.

i then press on to the final steps
# cat uKernel > /dev/mtdblock2
# cat uRamdisk > /dev/mtdblock3
these both complete with no errors (each took about 2m), so i hit the box with an init 6 and start praying that this is going to work and not brick my box

i'm now logged back in using the D-Link 1.07 FW gui. interesting observation is that the unit has all of the settings from pre-Debian still?
i then select RAID 1, and start the disk format which promptly fails and the unit emails me (twice, 10m apart) to tell me so:
Left Hard Drive Has Failed
Right Hard Drive Has Failed

second pass is running now, i'm at 43% and climbing..
format now stuck at 94% and have been for about 15m, after going back to physically check on unit there are no lights on either hard drive, and barely any network traffic at all.
weird.
refreshing the firefox session starts the format process again, maybe the third time is the charm.

oops, not so fast now i've stumbled into a known bug

going to pull these drives out, and put 2 new ones in. good thing i have some extra drives laying around.
after putting the second set in, it formatted correctly and i'm back in business!

I actually went from stock fw to debian installed back to stock fw without formatting once. I do have extra files scattered around now, but everything works fine. I also recall having a bit of a time getting those tools working when I went back to stock.
