Unfortunately no one can be told what fun_plug is - you have to see it for yourself.

Time Machine support on DNS-321

I'm trying to get a DNS-321 running fun_plug to be recognized as a valid device for Time Machine backups. I installed Fonz's avahi package (not optware) and created the SMB service definition as described on the wiki pages and forum posts (I did NOT configure AFP, as the things I read indicated that it wasn't required).  avahi runs, and the service name configured for it shows up in the Shared section of the Finder, so I assume that means the service is running ok and Bonjour is working.

Unfortunately, the DNS-321 still doesn't show up as a target for Time Machine. I'm not really sure what to check at this point - anyone have recommendations on what to look at to diagnose it further?

One thing I wasn't clear on - is the TMShowUnsupportedNetworkVolumes preference required in this case? I've tried it both ways and neither works, so that isn't my problem, but I am curious.

Re: Time Machine support on DNS-321

You need to mount the disk first. Then go to the TM preferences and choose the disk. It will auto mount once its all setup.
I ended up backing up to via AFP and creating the sparsebundle file first on the soon to be backed up computer, which allowed me to limit its size but also to be sure it was done right first.
