How cooperative is DLink?

This might be a quite stupid question regarding how cooperative DLink is towards this community. But, has there been any serious dialogue and/or attempts to convince DLink to open up more code that would be needed to build an open source based and alternative firmware to the DNS-323? By pointing DLink to DD-WRT firmware projects would once be great example where Linksys has gained quite a lot of positive feedback and where users buys the WRT54G-units due to the open source based firmware.

Having said that; what would the advantages and disadvantage for DLink be to provide an alternative open source firmware?

Re: How cooperative is DLink?

If one should narrow down what to be requested of documentation, utilities, etc or what ever to make it possible to create an alternative open source firmware; what would be needed and requested?

Re: How cooperative is DLink?

Aware of the various enhancement by adding to the existing firmware; but what I would like to see and as this board talks about would be a full replacement of the original firmware. What points to the D-Link are trying to be more open with the release of 1.8 beta?

Re: How cooperative is DLink?

That is just excellent and to hear! What I assume quite a few of use also want to see is an enhanced firmware for the DNS-32x units such as DD-WRT just to make a comparement to other similar projects. But from what you posted it seems that there is the proper knowledge to create, package and distribute an alternative firmware.

Re: How cooperative is DLink?

Time is always a factor and always will; but I have to say that having followed this great forum for a while now I really impressed with what has been generated by the dns-32x community and this forum.
