Problem with smbclient + tar in ffp 0.5

I've been trying to find a solution to a problem with BackupPC not working, and narrowed it down to smbclient. I installed Samba from ffp "All" packages.

When I attempt to copy all data from a windows share via command line, it does not respond as I would expect...  it instantly jumps to the command line, where I can "ls" and see files.

/usr/bin/smbclient \\\\sageserver1\\Root -U sageadmin -Tc -
Password:
smb:>

What I would expect, as when I do this, from another linux machine...

/usr/bin/smbclient \\\\sageserver1\\Root -U sageadmin -Tc -
Password:
*******Tonnes of data from the files on that system scream through the stdout*********

I don't see any errors and testparm shows that the smb.conf is being run properly.

Any ideas would be great.

Re: Problem with smbclient + tar in ffp 0.5

If someone could confirm that they could run this command, and not be dumped to the command line, that would be a start...

/usr/bin/smbclient \\\\host\\share -U username -Tc -

Version info

/usr/bin/smbclient -V
Version 3.0.24

On my pc linux that works...

/usr/bin/smbclient -V
Version 3.0.22

Re: Problem with smbclient + tar in ffp 0.5

I solved it using the newer samba binaries. Thought they overwrote the original ones.

/ffp/bin/smbclient  is working like a charm, and BackupPC is working nicely now.

Thanks Fonz and everyone else who have helped make the DNS-3x3's great!
