Hi, I have my 323 set up in standard mode - two separate drives - one is 1TB, and the other is 300gb. I am going to replace my 300gb with a 1.5tb WD. My question is - how do I format just one drive? I can't see any reference in the manual or FAQ. I have moved all data onto the 1TB, so I am free to remove the 300gb drive and insert the 1.5tb (have not done anything yet!),my worry is that I recall that during the NAS set up, the admin tools seems to want to format both disks when setting up standard mode and i do not want to loose any data on the current 1TB. I thought of removing the 1tb, whilst I format the 1.5tb - will this work - or what else do I do?
Thanks

You are wise to be careful.
I think that this is covered in the known-issues sticky.

Hi, It was just a case of turning it off, removing the drive, then inserting new drive, rebooting, formatting, and when that process has finished just reboot and fit in the old drive. It is a case of taking the old drive out before you format the new one, and then just putting the old one in.

That means I leave their physical positions unchanged. Assuming my old HDD is on the right side then new HDD will go into the left side.
I then remove the right drive. Power up reformat the left (new HDD) once done....open the lid again plug back the old HDD in the same old position and the DNS will work like it used too?
Funplug and transmission all OK? No need to reinstall?
Thanks for reading.

Yes - I left their positions unchanged to avoid any confusions with Volume_1 and Volume_2. (There is a workaround for this - but never had to do that). My old drive was a Volume_2. I removed that one (and the old small drive that was in Volume_1). Place new 1TB drive into Volume_1 slot and formatted. When process was complete I put old large drive back into Volume_2 - no problem - both were up and running. In your case - you probably have a drive in Volume_1. I think you will have a conflict of names - as you can't format a single drive in Volume_2 bay. You could either read the post about changing names of volumes (this I never had to do this) or might be easier if you have another small old drive - put that in Volume_1 bay, and your large new drive in Volume_2 bay - format both as usual, and then remove the small old one, and place the existing volume_1 back in - just an idea!
