Unfortunately no one can be told what fun_plug is - you have to see it for yourself.

As most of you probably know, Microsoft has made some changes in Windows 7 in regard to the Music, Videos, etc. folders. They're now called libraries and adding your NAS to it is only possible with a workaround, which is far from ideal.
The most important requirement for adding a network folder to your library, is that it's indexed on the server side. For example, you can easily add a network folder from another Windows pc if it's indexed using Windows Search 4.0.
If I understand correctly, this indexing service is called Federated Search. It's based on open standards (XML, RSS, OpenSearch) and works through a web server. So basically, all that needs to be done is have the NAS index itself (like it does now for UPnP and iTunes) and act like a Federated Search Provider.
Since I have no useable programming skills, I was wondering if anyone here has some time on their hands to try it out. It'd be fantastic if it'd work, browsing and searching your NAS from Windows will be extremely fast.

Microsoft have also created an implementation guide, which should have all the information to create the provider:

How about it?
