Fun Plug Installation fails

Hi,

I have already tried to install the latest fun plug package on my DNS-323 but without success. After putting the two files on Volume_1 and changing them to "777" there is no folder created after the reboot. Also when I put the files on Volume_2 I have the same result....

A few days ago I at least partly had success, because then the folder was created after rebooting but I could not access the DNS via Telnet. Could there be a a problem in the firmware and should I reinstall it?

Re: Fun Plug Installation fails

Make sure the names of the files are

   'fun_plug'

and

   'fun_plug.tgz'

some web browsers will add an extension (.sh) to the 'fun_plug'
file and this will cause the installation to fail.

Re: Fun Plug Installation fails

Glad that helped.  What web browser did you use to down load the files?
Opera, perhaps?

Re: Fun Plug Installation fails

please help. i am on WinXP and when i reboot NAS  it names the folder to fun_plug.d so i went ahead and renamed it fun_plug.tgz but on the next reboot it created a new folder called fun_plug.d (leaving my original alone). The file seems to be ok.

Re: Fun Plug Installation fails

Take a look at the README for ffp v0.5

http://www.inreto.de/dns323/fun-plug/0.5/

FFP README wrote:

Getting started on DNS-323 and CH3SNAS:

Copy fun_plug and fun_plug.tgz to Volume 1 and reboot. If
successful, the fun_plug.tgz file is unpacked (ffp directory) and
deleted. A telnet server is started.

After successful installation you should have the original 'fun_plug' file and a new
directory <del>'fun_plug.d'</del> 'ffp'.  (unpacking the 'fun_plug.tgz' file creates the directory <del>'fun_plug.d'</del> 'ffp')

He should have a "ffp" directory instead of "fun_plug.d".. (just a small remark)

Thanks bvsteyn, you are correct, I have edited my previous post.
(seems this forum doesn't recognize the strikethrough BBCode sad )

I was just thinking, if you are getting a 'fun_plug.d' directory, perhaps you are using an
earlier version (v0.4) of 'Fonz Fun Plug'.  I would suggests you visit http://www.inreto.de/dns323/fun-plug
and make sure you have downloaded the latest version (v0.5).

Hi! I'm new to this helpful forum, so please excuse me if I'm missing any obvious thing, but...
Just got DNS-323 and eagerly want to have SSH into it. Also I have 2 disks inside, 200GiB (first, left bay) and 1TiB (second, right bay); they work well and I can access them through FTP.
So I downloaded Fonz's fun_plug 0.5 and placed these two files (no .sh or any other extension for the first!) into Volume_1, and did a chmod 777 for both. Rebooted twice, even shutdown/start -- still both files lay where I put them and no telnet, SSH and any visible changes to the device. Can you tell me how stupid I am and what step(s) should I make? Without this first kick-off this hardware is a black-box for me...

That was it, thank you! After following this advice I successfully have fun_plug installed, and by changing symlink /ffp->/mnt/HD_b2/ffp pointing to /mnt/HD_a2/ffp (or vice versa, that wasn't easy to remember which is what) and copying ffp installation accordingly I have fun_plug system on my first (=left, 200GiB) disk. Thanks!
