Cross Compile Using Cygwin

A few months back I asked for help in building an updated Samba package which fonz was kind enough to provide. I the thread addressing that request was talk of installing my own build environment which I've successfully done. In that same thread was mention of reducing compile time through use of an additional machine in the build environment.

Over the past couple of days I've been attempting to use Cygwin on my Windows Vista machine to assist with the build. I believe I've successfully in configured distcc on the DNS323 and distccd on the Windows machine as when the build job is run distcc returns a rather cryptic error ([100]) that I've deciphered as meaning the Cygwin environment isn't set up correctly; the build environment isn't properly configured. My problem here is that I'm new to Linux and can't figure out what needs to be done to configure the Cygwin environment correctly.

In my attempts at getting this to work I installed every available Cygwin component thus ensuring all items required to complete a build would be available. I'm guessing that some sort of crosstool set needs to be installed and configured however I've not been able to find any instruction that I can understand.

I would greatly appreciate any direction or suggestion offered in this regard.

With appreciation
