DSM-G600 and Windows XP and WinSCP and Filezilla

I'm not sure how to get fun_plug to work with my Windows XP Pro SP2 (fully updated) and WinSCP and FileZilla. I just found some other portable apps that might help in reading ext2 and ext3 format not sure if I can write with it. it's called explore2fs portable. I haven't had much luck with running linux virtual within Windows XP using a USB Drive case and my DSM-G600 internal HDD (Western Digital 500 GB HDD). My DSM-G600 is Rev B1. My Tower is a Intel D850EMV2 with a P4 2 Ghz CPU and I upgraded it with an Linksys Gigabit card (disabled the onboard 10/100 Intel NIC). I'd love to be able to get something that I can use for website or websites in hosting besides the ftp server. Right now I'm only able to get the ftp server working. Seems like the UPNP AV server part doesn't want to work with my Windows XP. My sister just bought herself a new laptop computer with Windows Vista on it and it doesn't see any shares on my network at all (my Tower or my DSM-G600) and I'm not sure what the problem is.

Re: DSM-G600 and Windows XP and WinSCP and Filezilla

You don't need to WinSCP to DSM-G600 nor you don't need ext support to your xp. Just read fun_plug howto page very carefully, also try to find some info from this forum.
If you have fun_plug in pace then you can install lighttpd (wiki howto page is available).

Re: DSM-G600 and Windows XP and WinSCP and Filezilla

I've tried to get fun_plug to work by using a usb drive case (to house the HDD) and knoppix and knoppix act alikes. I've also tried the qemu and doing it by ftp and I still haven't been able to get to work, not sure what I've been doing wrong. I keep going back to the fun_plug wiki and forum and I'm not sure what I've been doing wrong.

I cant help much more, because just making empty file named fun_plug into your hard disk root is too simple to give further details. Plus chmod 777 fun_plug sounds also pretty easy roll

Re: DSM-G600 and Windows XP and WinSCP and Filezilla

I guess what I'll have to do is whack windows xp pro and install linux then maybe I can get it to work out since I can't see spending hours ripping the inside of my computer apart just to install the HDD on one of the 2 IDE cables, since the USB drive case idea isn't working with the knoppix discs and windows isn't wanting to play with linux or any other os that works with each other. fun_plug is just fun_plug or is it fun_plug.sh or is it fun_plug.rc (guessing maybe fun_plug.sh)?
