Permissions error

I'm generally trying to follow this guide:
http://www.shadowandy.net/2007/12/setti … magick.htm

I know it's old... but I figured some of the commands should be similar. But I can't get past a permissions error.

-sh: /mnt/HD_a2: Permission denied

Pretty much any /mnt command says Permission denied.

Admittedly I'm a Linux noobie, but I've spent probably 6 hours looking up commands -  chmod, chown, etc and think I understand the permissions. I can't for the life of me figure out how to fix this permissions error. I'm logged in as root and I've chmod all of my files to all permissions to try to get it to work but I cant...

root@dlink-8D5219:/mnt# ls -l
drwxrwxrwx   10 root     root         4096 Jul 23 14:32 HD_a2
drwxrwxrwx    3 root     root         1024 Jul 23 14:23 HD_a4
drwxrwxrwx    2 root     root         1024 Feb 16  2007 web_page

root@dlink-8D5219:/mnt/HD_a2# ls -l
drwxrwxrwx    4 root     root         4096 Jul 22 20:04 Files
drwxrwxrwx   15 root     root         4096 Jul 22 22:00 My Documents
drwxrwxrwx    6 root     root         4096 Dec 25  2008 Shows
drwxrwxrwx    3 root     root         4096 Jul 11 14:34 The Fancy Pansy
drwxrwxrwx   12 root     root         4096 Jul 23 13:59 ffp
-rwxrwxrwx    1 root     root        51619 Jul 23 14:23 ffp.log
-rwxrwxrwx    1 root     root         1778 Jul 22 19:49 fun_plug
-rwxrwxrwx    1 root     root      7633230 Jul 22 21:52 imagemagick.tgz
-rwxrwxrwx    1 root     root       216983 Jul 22 21:51 libjpeg.tgz
-rwxrwxrwx    1 root     root       306946 Jul 22 21:51 libpng.tgz
drwxrwxrwx    2 root     root         4096 Jul 23 14:10 misc
-rwxrwxrwx    1 root     root      7108008 Jul 23 14:32 php.tgz

It seems to me all my permissions are set fine... any hints? Or can anyone point me to a better place to do what is in that link above?

Thanks a bunch.

Re: Permissions error

Since, you've installed ffp 0.5, you should start with plain lighttpd, first: http://dns323.kood.org/howto:ffp#lighttpd_web_server
Then, learn some of the command line basics: http://dns323.kood.org/forum/viewtopic.php?id=2648
Finally, you can retry the imagemagick part.
