Interruption of Data Transfer between DNS-323 and Laptop via Wireless

Hi,

I've newly installed my DNS. Connection is:

DNS - wired - Router - wireless - Laptop (windows vista)

If I transfer data above 1 GB to my DNS the connection gets lost after (about 100 Mb up to 300 MB) restarts after a while and i have to manually restart the copy command.

I first had the idea that has to do with te wireless connection, but if i transfer the same data amount via the internet connection at the same wireless-connection-quality to my laptop i do not have those interruptions. Then the connection is:

Internet - modem - wired - Router - wireless - Laptop (windows vista)

Has someone an idea what could help?

Thanx,
Horst

Re: Interruption of Data Transfer between DNS-323 and Laptop via Wireless

I have a similar issue...

I would recommend you check the router logs to see if your router is resetting... if the router isn't resetting check the logs of the DNS to see if it's resetting, if that's fine, try a wired connection to the router to see if that works...  a lot of times, the wireless signal isn't stable, so I would try a different channel or some different settings... but then again, you said your internet connection is solid during this time ?

Hy,

it looks like the router is resetting ... I have to log into the logs. But the overall behavior is like router -reset! Whatever that meens. I also thought about a firewall issue ...

Thanx for your Help

The problem is most likely a poor wireless connection.  You may be able to transfer similar amounts of data via the internet connection, but, is is unlikely that you can transfer the data at the same speed, unless you have an extremely fast internet connection - can you really transfer data "above 1GB" via your internet connection?  How long does it take?

What you need to look at is the receive/transmit errors that occur when you are using the DNS-323 via the wireless, this will reveal where your problem is coming from.

THX for the hint!

I will try with a wire connection this evening ... yesterday I tried to read the logs of my router ... they seemd to be turned off. I will report whether that was the problem!

thanx again,
horst

Re: Interruption of Data Transfer between DNS-323 and Laptop via Wireless

HERE IS MY REPORT ;-):

Yesterday I've tried different things, just to investigate and find the reason. As soon as I transfer the data wired, the interruption disappears.  Than I connected wireless an older PC with XP. And this worked well as well. But only as long, as I didn't start with the wired connection.

Reading also your feedback at the "disconnection" thing about the TCP/IP protocols I guess I can now proof that this has to do with the given weaknesses of an wireless connection.

IS THERE AN OPTION to reduce the speed with which vista sends the packages into that wireless connection? I do not have a problem, as long as my wireless connection is slow (3 MB/s is fine for the use I have on that connection) ... My problem is the interruption.

And I have learned that my slow old XP PC has the interruption only if the router has to handle a 60 GB 10,5 MB/sec copy wired at the same time.

THX for your support,

Horst

Re: Interruption of Data Transfer between DNS-323 and Laptop via Wireless

Don't discount your wireless connection just yet...

I haven't had any issues within the past 3 days ever since I set my DNS on static IP. I previously had it set for DHCP, even though on my router I fixed the IP it would assign to the DNS.

I have a wireless ethernet bridge connecting my desktop to my DNS downstairs between 2 stories (desktop is on 3rd floor, DNS is on 1st).

I have a pretty decent connection, peaking at ~3MB/s data transfer rates.

Re: Interruption of Data Transfer between DNS-323 and Laptop via Wireless

My final statement on this issue.
For purpose to make aac files available for my ps3 i installed firmware 1.08.

This obviously solved my Datatransfer issue.
