UPnP problem

Hello,

I'd like to stream media to my PS3 with the UpnP AV protocol (using wifi connection).

On the NAS, If I select a small forder with 10 movies, then save, then refresh. I can see those 10 movies on my PS3.

But I'd like to have access to +- 800gb of movies/mp3,...

So I've checked the 'Root' option, then save and Refresh (It took 2h).
On my PS3, I tried to update the content of my NAS, I choose to look for multimedia server.

But It's always the previous 10 movies that  I can see.

Do I have to wait? (don't know what)

Is there a place where I can find a status on the UpnP (the files found)

Is there a limit? (number of files?)

Or maybe the UpnP refresh crashed because It found a special char?

Last question: Can't we specify multiple folder? So I could refresh the Video folder, then mp3, then picture,...

Thanks,

Frenchybe

Re: UPnP problem

Your not alone....but I don't have an answer. I found the same issue with the DNS-323. If there seems to be allot of sub folders where you keep your media....my XBox will see nothing. But if I choose a small subfolder...I can see everything in that folder. I have been able to change the folder though. And yes....multiple folder support would be nice. I also have continous choppy playback.

I feel your pain. Again..sorry no answers.

Re: UPnP problem

Hi,

Yesterday, I created a folder "media".

I ask the NAS to use this folder for the media contents (and not the root).

I put my movies, then refresh : everything OK
I put my MP3, the refresh : It blocked at 92%
I started again and again, each time blocked at 92%
I leave it all the night at the 92%. And this morning It said "refresh completed".
And YES, all my contents are available smile

Tonight I'll put my pictures on the Media Folder and try to refresh, I'll tell you if It works too.

So for now I have;

Volume_1\Media\Video
Volume_1\Media\MP3

I hope for the next firmware that they'll allow to share multiple folders with Upnp.
AND they'll give a status on the indexation. Wich files are OK, which are not.

Re: UPnP problem

Just to add my 2cents worth:

Usually the PS3 should categorize movies, music and photos automatically when you create the following folders:
"VIDEO", "MUSIC" and "PHOTO"
If you do this on an external drive and put your meda files in their respective categories, the PS3 will only show movie files under VIDEO, mp3/wma under MUSIC and jpegs under PHOTO in the PS3's XMB.

However there seems to be a problem with the DNS-323 to make the PS3 recognize these folders even if you set the root of your uPnP folder to be /media/ and you create the VIDEO, MUSIC and PHOTO folders in there.

Hopefully they'll be able to fix it in the future.

Re: UPnP problem

And one comment, having quiet similar issues!

If you do not use FIRMWARE 1.08 you will always have problems with some formats like acc (m4a) ... at your PS3!

I have this in use since 3 days and the situation improved!

Re: UPnP problem

I had similar issue with my Xbox360.
UPnP enabled. Most recent firmware 1.08 as soon as I bought it (about a week ago)

First I just transferred everything from my old external (documents, images, audio/video, iso, exe) onto the NAS volume1

Did the refresh but and the NAS would display on my Xbox and have a few folders, but when I go into video folder. No Videos Found.
Tried a Music Video folder and it displayed them.

I have alot more in my Video folder (including sub folders) then in my Music video folder so I tried just moving 1 avi over to Volume 2. It displayed fine.
So I moved 10 more over.. Still there.

So I moved about 60 mover over.  Now none of the single avis are displaying on volume 2, but all of a sudden all the folders that had nothing in them before on volume 1 are displaying fine.

Any ideas?

edit: just read on another thread about hooking up NAS via USB directly to xbox.. not something I wanted to have to do, but will give it a shot to see what I can discover. will post results.
edit#2:  apparently that wont work so nvm.

but i will be playing around with folders and amount of files in folders and drives.  seems to work better when I have less files for it to look for.
also look into alternate firmware/ media servers to put on it.
