Raid Degraded

hi all,

i have the following
2x WD 500gb HD's
firmware 1.07
RAID1 (degraded)
Both LED's are blue (for each HD)
no where in the config is it asking to format any HD's

however, in the status tab of the config page of said 323, only 1x HD shows up

Slot      Vendor      Model      Serial Number      Size
1     WDC     WD5000AAKS-00C8A     WD-WCAS84700667     500 G
2     -     -     -     -

any reason as to why Slot2 is not showing the HD already inserted into that slot (as i said before, the light is blue for that slot)

im cautious about enabling Enable Auto-Rebuild within the 323 config as this has failed on me in the past with previous firmware (that was a bad day!)

for now, i can see the files on the network based on Slot1 .. but i dont think its actually doing a sync to the 2nd HD

is it safe to do a rebuild?

anyone have suggestions?

cheers

Re: Raid Degraded

First suggestion - start by backing up the data whilst you have access to it.

The next thing I would do is pull the drive from Slot2 (left hand when looking at the unit from the front), connect it to a PC and run WD's DatacLifeGuard diagnostics on it to verify it's functionality, if it's defective, replace it, if it's not, wipe the partitions and reinstall it and then try a rebuild.

If you can not make a backup, you are probably headed for another "bad day".
