raid1: Disk failure on sda2 HELP

Hi all,

I just heard strange noise from my DNS323,

then I logged in and performed a dmsg, then I got :

SCSI error : <0 0 0 0> return code = 0x8000002
sda: Current: sense key=0xb
    ASC=0x0 ASCQ=0x0
Info fld=0x0
end_request: I/O error, dev sda, sector 1715855770
SCSI error : <0 0 0 0> return code = 0x8000002
sda: Current: sense key=0xb
    ASC=0x0 ASCQ=0x0
Info fld=0x0
end_request: I/O error, dev sda, sector 1715855778
SCSI error : <0 0 0 0> return code = 0x8000002
sda: Current: sense key=0xb
    ASC=0x0 ASCQ=0x0
Info fld=0x0
end_request: I/O error, dev sda, sector 1715855786
raid1: Disk failure on sda2, disabling device.
        Operation continuing on 1 devices
raid1: sda2: rescheduling sector 1713767320
RAID1 conf printout:
--- wd:1 rd:2
disk 0, wo:1, o:0, dev:sda2
disk 1, wo:0, o:1, dev:sdb2
RAID1 conf printout:
--- wd:1 rd:2
disk 1, wo:0, o:1, dev:sdb2
raid1: sdb2: redirecting sector 1713767320 to another mirror

My hard drives are brand news,
Should I return the one which failed ?
How do I know which one is sda ?

The DNS323 front lights doesn't indicate any failure and I didn't receive any mail from my DNS to indicate disk faile (I configured and checked that feature previously)

Re: raid1: Disk failure on sda2 HELP

Hi again,

I got my answer. I downloaded the diagnostic tool from my HDD manufacturer and ran it onto my suspected bad HD. With no surprise it failed.

I just have to replace my brand new 1 To HD !

Thanks to raid 1 I won't have to spend long hours to reconfigure all my stuff !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just hope that my other HD won't fail til I get my replacement part from my retailer
