Hello,
The local power company just came out and "upgraded" our power meter. To do so, they had to turn off the AC for the whole house for a
fraction of a minute. I only had about 10 minutes warning, I ran around turning off computers and saving files etc.
But I forgot out my faithful DNS323 sitting under the desk. When the power came back, the DNS323 did not.
Got out my voltmeter, checked the power supply: no DC output whatsoever. Good AC at the input.
Took the power supply apart ( gotta love a wall wart that comes apart! ) and inspected the circuit board with a bright light & magnifier -
no obvious cold or cracked solder joints. Powered it up - measured good AC on the internal traces - so no bad connection to the cord.
Found another supply in my junk that had the same voltages ( 12V, 5V ) and the same connector, even the same pinout! It was from a Vantec
NexStar2 USB disk enclosure. The DNS323 is humming along again. Unfortunately, the amp rating of the replacement is not as high - 1.5A per output instead of 3. I'm betting it's OK as long as I have just one drive in the box. With a second drive, it will surely fail.
Anybody know of an inexpensive source for these supplies? Got a spare you'd like to sell?
