Re: USB Storage devices compatiblity list for DNS-323

Bah! Going crazy over this!

Device: DNS 323
Firmware: 1.07
Module: usb-storage.ko (one without debug messages)

1) Bought External Harddrive case, Packard Bell Carbon. HDD inside is 1TB WD Green
2) Loaded the module with insmod, all fine this far and it shows correct output via 'lsmod'
3) Connected the HDD and i get same messages as OP (error -71 blabla)

Troubleshooting:
1) I changed the HDD to smaller one WD320gb. Same result
2) Bought active USB HUB, connected it. D-link seems to recognize the hub, but after that it just hits  the shitter after few seconds. See output below:

Re: USB Storage devices compatiblity list for DNS-323

Hi guys,

Hoping to get a response back, trying to connect and mount an external 400GB Seagate hard drive to my DNS-323 USB, please see my putty log and let me know why I am unable to get it working.

Thanks.

I confirmed that this is related to the ntfs.ko module. As for the same enclosure and disk, I was able to use it sucessfully after I reformated to ext3. It just doesn't work with ntfs.ko.

I think we probably need an updated version of ntfs.ko for my kernel. Did anybody find one working?

Re: USB Storage devices compatiblity list for DNS-323

Hi to all!

I have a DNS-323 HW B3, FW 1.08.
Today I tried to attach my external 2,5" USB drive to the NAS, but it doesn't seem to work.

Model: Samsung HM641JI
Enclosure: CnMemory 2,5" Sata -> USB Bridge

Code:

Is it possible to get the drive running by replacing the usb-storage.ko to a newer version? I tried to run the drive with an active usb-hub, but this could not solve the problem - but the hub is usb 2.0 capable.  Is it possible to force the chipset to run in OHCI-mode?
Could the drive maybe be supported if i ran debian on the NAS?

Edit: It would be really nice if someone had an idea how to get the harddisk to run at the USB-port!
Could the problem be solved if I would buy an other adaptor?

Re: USB Storage devices compatiblity list for DNS-323

They are working properly all on a hub, and are formatted as ext3. Flash drive is used for logs and running Optware. HDDs are used for weekly rsync'd backup from internal 2TB HDDs. Both external hard drives are capable of going to standby mode and turning off themselves.

PQI 4GB flash drive
SAMSUNG G3 Station 2TB external HDD
TEVION 2TB external HDD (Western Digital WD20EARS inside)

Host scsi4: usb-storage

    Product: PQI USB Flash Drive
   Protocol: Transparent SCSI
Transport: Bulk

Host scsi5: usb-storage

Host scsi6: usb-storage
