Unfortunately no one can be told what fun_plug is - you have to see it for yourself.

anyone having problems connecting their 323 via samba? this has been my problem even on the early snow builds. Using leopard 10.5.8 n below has no issues. AFP works though but i cant mount 2 hardrives at the same time plus i like samba for the customized folder.
Help is very much appreciated. only mod on my 323 are funplug, AFP/Appletalk from wiki, transmission and volume name.. (error below)
also this is the error im getting if i tick Finder->Go->Connect to Server
BTW web_page is mounting except for the volume_1 and 2.

Same problems here after upgrading to Snow Leopard, i own a DNS-323 with firmware 1.06 on board, it seems that it failes to authenticate, also I was unable to find the DNS323 with the netbios name: I had to insert name+ip address in /etc/hosts; everything worked fine in Leopard.
Maybe upgrading DNS-323 firmware to 1.07 can help ?
@tatan10028: what is you firmware version ?
In another forum I just read that some folk solved the problem upgrading to 1.08b5

upgrade fw 1.08b5 problem solved.

Installed 1.08b5 and solved the problem.
Usually I prefer not to install beta versions of firmware, but this one is a must if you upgrade OSX to Snow Leopard.
Upgrading firmware was a smooth process, just did the upgrade with the web interface and the box restarted without problems, all the settings of the DNS323 survived unaltered.

glad that i am not alone! anyone care to link this firmware 1.08b5?

Probably because you're running both smb (upper version's default icon) and afp (lower version's default icon), both of them announcing themselves over the network (Bonjour for instance), and both of them using the same server name ("dns-323").
Regarding the icon, you can actually set avahi to tell your Mac to display a custom icon. Read more here:

For the CH3NAS I found a solution,
change in /etc/samba/smb.conf SHARE in to USER
For the fonz funplug users;
nano /ffp/start/sl.sh
awk '{gsub("security = SHARE", "security = USER", $0); print > FILENAME}' /etc/samba/smb.conf
smb restart
save the file
then
chmod +x /ffp/start/sl.sh
then exucute the file
/ffp/start/sl.sh
good luck

And time machine works without any hacks.
doesn't work here, care to share how did you manage to get it working?
share is visible via this command " defaults write com.apple.systempreferences TMShowUnsupportedNetworkVolumes 1 " but when i choose to backup it just errors out.

edit: downloaded 1.08b and 1.08b5 and tried both firmwares, anyone know hot to make bonjour working and time machine? do i need to erase my funplug and appletalk from wiki? noob here
another edit: now my nas wont appear on my sidebar

No, it should work with 1.08b5 I think; I was pointing you at that thread because the link in post #6 shows how to set up a sparse bundle image and all that jazz to get it working over SMB network share.
