Fan never Stop at 87°F / 31°C

Hello,

recently bought a DNS-323 With two Western Digital Caviar Green 1.5 TO  (Ref provided in status page : WD15EADS-00P8B0).

The issue is that the fan never spin down.
I tried the fanctl from the fun_plug doesn't fix it
Tried to reformat==> doesn't fix it
Tried to reflash in 1.07 ==> doesn't fix it
Try to flash in 1.08beta5 ==> doesn't fix it
Try to install again the funplug ffp without fanctrl ==> no change.

The temperature is :
  + on web console : System Temperature:       87°F / 31°C
  + using command line :  temperature g 0  ==> <temperaturertc>: get temperature = 87
  + using fun_plug : dns323-temp 31 C  87 F

All post seams to let believe that fan should be off at such a temperature.

And fan command :
/ # fanspeed g
0
/ # dns323-fan v
program_speed=7021
actual_speed=0
status=2
/ # dns323-fan s 1935
1935 0 2
/ # dns323-fan v
program_speed=1935
actual_speed=0
status=2
======
But to be honest no matter what i do the noise remains the same, meaning i seams not to have any control on the fan.

If you have any idea i'll be interested, has this is really noisy and anoying.
thanks
y.

if fanspeed g says 0 its not running. i guess the noise you are hearing are the hd's. they are much louder than the fan.
check e.g. with a small flame if the fan produces an airflow at the back of dns-323.

Yes the fan produce air, i did check.  And my concern is that the API returns a wrong value + modification are non effective.

It's WD caviar green HD, they are particularly silent.

Re: Fan never Stop at 87°F / 31°C

The strangest bit is that for a reason i can't know, the fan has just stopped.

Only element being :
  ° move the NAS from back of computer to the router ( but i tried it in the past and was still running)
  ° did download the funplug packages on the disk + update + install of smartmon
  ° runned the smarctl command but just to get values not to change anything.

And then fan sudently stopped.
Makes a week i have been investigating, so so far i'm not gona try additionnal steps/combinaison and configuration.
Just  describing what happen in case of any use or help to others

Re: Fan never Stop at 87°F / 31°C

yes it wasn't present.
Also i saw some threads around using or not the ntp features, but with it enabled or disabled this didn't changed for me.

Reminder the issue is now solved for me, i don't know why and how.

Just answering to log for others, or in case the issue comes back.
I don't know if the orign of fixed is :
  + file system was empty ( but in the past i also rsync all packages)
  + upgrade the funpkg ( mainly lighthttpd, but it's not activated in /ffp/start) ( did it prior to reformat and move to 1.08B5)
  + installed and run of smartmon but just to collect data  ( first time i did it)
  + changed from pc to router ( but tried in the past without success)
  + The moon and mars conjunction ..smile

Re: Fan never Stop at 87°F / 31°C

Hmm finally unsure that issue is really fixed.

I have in the log the following line :
    fan can't rotate, check it please.

If i blow on the fan it turning so it's not physically blocked

Anyone have ever seen this message
