USB-HDD

Hi,

is it not possible to operate DNS-323 with an USB Hard disk drive from LaCie (1TB) only? In the software it is recognized as a Printer (?!?). So, is at least one internal drive necessary?

Thanks in advance

Re: USB-HDD

With standard firmware you need to hook your configurationions via internal hd (funplug). Configurations needed to mount the usb-disk.

I am pretty sure there are custom firmwares which allow you to hook up an usb-hd without the need for an internal disk. But this is a bit risky.

Re: USB-HDD

That is correct - with the standard firmware the USB port will only support a printer, or with the later versions, a UPS - it is possible to add support for a USB hard drive through fun_plug and perhaps if you add your voice at forums.dlink.com, D-Link may one day add it to the firmware.

Re: USB-HDD

you can install native debian and use your usb drive as basis, but that doesnt make sense if you are not familiar with linux. taking the hdd out of the case and put in the dns-323 is probably the best solution.
