New firmware 1.08B05 released in Australia.

I just checked the D-LINK website and found firmware 1.08 available for download.

The release notes do not mention anything about this release (yet).

Has anyone tried this version out yet?

Re: New firmware 1.08B05 released in Australia.

Unfortunately - because of D-Link's "segmented" approach - you have no guarantee that the 1.08B05 release on the Australian site is in any way related to the 1.08 Build 05 beta on the US site.  It could be the same thing and it just as easily could be different.

Take a look at this - the Australian site does not offer firmware beyond 1.06 for Rev A hardware, but, the US site makes no differentiation between the hardware revisions and offers 1.07 as it's latest - so what does that mean for an Australian user of Rev A hardware - has he been abandoned, is he being forced to upgrade to newer Rev B (or even Rev C) hardware?

Did you notice that the Australian site does not indicate that their 1.08B05 is a beta and that the US site have not released 1.08 as final?  Are you aware that there is a 1.08 BUILD 07 beta "lurking in the wild", suggesting that D-Link (US) may not yet been finished with the 1.08 firmware?

The moral?  Make no assumptions

Re: New firmware 1.08B05 released in Australia.

Good points fordem.

The fact the the Australian site did not state that the firmware was beta made me think that this might be the release of firmware 1.08.  Normally we lag behind in the firmware stakes by a month or more.

No I did not know that there was a 1.08 Build 07 out there, should I be?

Struth mate, I was just trying to find out if this was a legitimate and workable version not get a moral lesson wink

At least I stated the facts as I could see them, thanks for the lesson.  I will await others postings of 'official' releases in future.

That "lesson" was not directed at you - but at the person who seemed to feel that the Australian release was the same as the beta - your question (in my opinion) was a reasonable one, his/her response is based on an assumption that may or may not be incorrect.

To be honest - I like your approach - personally I'm not in favour of updating firmware simply because there is a newer one, I like to know what it includes and of course what it might break.

Re: New firmware 1.08B05 released in Australia.

Instead of assume the files are the same/not the same, why not download both and calculate their MD5 checksum?

I got:
MD5: E1A2B896504E6D43EF37F7B4F9600FE1
SHA1: 6bc1dc761e614e32a02fb8b52d4ee0df6af0084f
CRC: 3d71f9ff

for both files.
