I'm also interest to use a PPTP client on the DNS-323
I've an account on a VPN server but it's not me who configure it so I can't install openVPN or another solution like this.
The only supported protocol is PPTP...

Have you any idea ??

I'm at a bit of a loss here.

Assuming the VPN server on which you have the account is on the same network as your DNS-323, you should be able to "VPN in" to that server and through it, connect to any other device on the network - if it's not on the same network, then it's of no relevance to the discussion and you can theoretically use any VPN solution that is available.

What I want is to connect the VPN server by PPTP protocol.
This server will forward my traffic.

On my Windows workstation, I have entered the VPN address, my login and my password and it's OK.
Now I want that my DNS-323 connect directly to the VPN server but I don't know how...

Where is the VPN server located relative to the DNS-323? Are they on the same network?

Assuming that they are - when you connect your Windows workstation via the VPN you will be assigned an ip address by the server and to all intents & purposes, you are on the same network as that server - you should be able to connect to any device on the network, simply by entering it's ip address.

The VPN is not at all on my network

VPN Server * internet * <- modem/routeur -> DNS-323
-> PC

My workstation was an example
I want my DNS-323 connect the VPN server to anonym it on internet when it download by p2p

Hi there!

Anyone managed to get a PPTP client yet?
I believe this is what's needed to use Bittorrent over VPN with Itshidden's free VPN service...

I can only find a guide for this using Gnome/KDE with "network-manager-pptp" which obviously I can't run on my DNS-323. (http://www.webupd8.org/2009/07/anonymou … idden.html)

Anyone successfully using this?

I solved this by using the PPTP Client in my DD-WRT router, works good so far!

Could be nice for people without a good router, though...

What would it take to port a PPTP client to the DNS 323? Can any of the debian PPTP clients be recompiled to fit into the fun_plug?

I need the following setup:
[DNS 323] -> [Firewall+NAT+ADSL home router] -> [internet] -> [firewall+PPTP server+nat] ->[LAN that needs to see the DNS 323 as a local device]
(Arrows are initiators for direction for a PPTP connection)

The DNS will be working as a remote backup (disaster recovery) device that must be able to "phone home" with a PPTP connection to the office LAN, from where it will accessed for backup purposes. PPTP is at the moment the only VPN solution available.

By configuring the DNS with a simple VPN connection to the office LAN, it can be placed almost everywhere with a decent download Internet connection, without depending on the configuration of the ADSL router/firewall, and it could be left alone with a power cord and a network cable. (In case of a disaster recovery situation, the box would be brought inside the LAN for faster operation).

So, any takes on how a PPTP client can be ported to fun_plug?

This might be a bit o/t, just throwing this in there: what about FTPS ? Might be a bit easier?

I can see where you're going with PPTP, but as others have mentioned, unless your firewall/router supports it, it could be a bit difficult.

Any luck with pptp client on DNS-323? I am running chrooted Debian but the latest firmware kernel is too old to support mppe. I tried looking for modules but can't seem to get it to work.

Anyone has any pointers?

- There is no difference between server and client in PPP. You need to compile PPP package to get both.
- I am currently following instructions in thread about PPP server and so far I was able to compile PPP package on DNS-323

All right, it seems I am getting through this...

- to run ppp with mppe enabled you need several kernel modules
- main problem: mppe kernel module is not even included in regular linux kernel source neither with official kernel.org or with DNS323 GPL suite.
- to get it, you need to fully go through this painful process: http://dns323.kood.org/howto:crosscompile
- patch kernel with mppe patch from here: http://mppe-mppc.alphacron.de/
- patch ppp 2.4.3 with patch from the same location above
- run it

OK! It works. Thanks to the kotl post. I've compiled the kernel module for ppp_mppe_mppc and it seems that I can connect to a VPN server via PPTP.
