Unfortunately no one can be told what fun_plug is - you have to see it for yourself.

Just bought a used DNS 323 off ebay. Connected it to my network (192.168.0.*) with no harddrives and with two Samsung Spinpoint 500GB HDs.
Problem is it won't get an IP in either situation.
I'm using a Mac so can't use the util that comes with the DLink.
I try pinging 192.168.0.32 but get either a "Host is down" or "no route to host" error message.
I tried arp -a to see what devices are on the network and I get this for 192.168.0.32:
? (192.168.0.32) at (incomplete) on en1 [ethernet]
I tried assigning the mac access to 192.168.0.32 using
sudo arp -s 192.168.0.32 <Mac address on bottom of DNS323>
but still can't reach it after this.
I'm pulling my hair out here. Any ideas on how to reach the unit? Is it possible I was sold a bad device?
Thanks!
D.

oh yeah, also, the device doesn't show up in my Belkin Router's DHCP client list.
I've also tried connecting directly to the DNS323 with a Cat 5 cable and a crossover cable in addition to going through the router. Still no dice.

I assume you've tried turning it off, restarting your computer, restarting your router, and then the DNS-323. Have you tried a different network cable, just to rule that out?
Sounds like you could have gotten a DOA unit...mine connected w/out any issues at all.

i did try all those things, including the network cable.
just found a random post about resetting the unit with the reset button at the back--tried it out and this worked! can't believe d-link tech support didn't even suggest it... awesome.

The original user may have set a static ip address, I believe that's one of D-Link's recommendations.
