Unfortunately no one can be told what fun_plug is - you have to see it for yourself.

Hi All,
I use a couple of main folders in volume 1 on my DNS-323 as a centralised store for all my data. I then access the data primarily from a PC and Laptop, both now with Windows 7; but also occasionally from machines with Vista and XP installed.
Windows 7 is reluctant to index the contents of Volume 1, and I want it indexed due to the large number of files there and the frequency with which I search on it.
(I use the word 'reluctant' as I've done some research, and a response from MS of "When you make a network folder available offline, copies of all the files in that folder will be stored on your computer's hard disk." is not entirely satisfactory.)
Also, do libraries and homegroups matter?

Anyone also experiencing this problem?
Also, anyone tried using UNCFAT to index?
From http://www.windows7taskforce.com/view/3367
"Microsoft provide a NAS/Samba/FAT/Windows File Sharing "plug-in" for Windows Search Indexer. Don't know if you've tried it. It's called 'UNCFAT' and can be found here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta … 0761e27283 Note that while it doesn't list Windows 7 explicitly, Windows 7 runs Windows Search 4.0 and it works with that. I have also installed and used it on Windows 7 RTM with a Netgear NAS - works fine."

Thanks for the link. I'm going to try this on my Windows Vista box.
There's indication in the associated KB article that this will not work with Windows 7. See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918996 for detail.

Thank-you for your response Bob - sad to see, as you did "This article discusses the Windows Desktop Search add-in for Files on Microsoft Networks. This add-in is not supported in Windows 7 or in later versions."
