What to do with a dead unit ?

OK, I've been very happy with my 323 over the last 3 years, and everything has been running fine. I've been a little worried about the drives, and have been formulating another backup strategy, and it appears that I may be just a little too late.

I was accessing the drive from several different machines, Window XP/Vista/7, Mac, and Linux all with no troubles until tonight. I could not access it, and looked at the actual unit, and no lights were on. I pulled it down off of its shelf, and checked that the fan was still operational. I pulled out the disks and re-seated them, but nothing is working.

How do I get the data off of one of these drives? I had them set in RAID 1, and I think I had it formatted as EXT 3, but I don't recall.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hi !

You can try to plug your drives, into a Linux computer (or a computer running a Linux LiveCD ...)

Re: What to do with a dead unit ?

Thanks for the suggestion. I also read on the group last night that I could also use ext2ifs for Windows to read the drives. I'll probably try to do that today. I was mainly looking for reassurance that somebody out there has tried any of these methods and successfully gotten the data off their drives.

The ext3 option was removed from the early firmware and is slated to be reintroduced in the next (1.08) so you're probably using ext2 - you should be able to use the ext2ifs installable driver with Windows XP to get to your data - and yes, I have done it successfully
