I have mutiple DNS-323 units at multiple locations around the internet. Each unit is behind a firewall (either running pfSense or a Linksys running DD-WRT).
I have one unit at a datacenter that I would like to use as a central backup location and I would like the remote units to backup to the central unit on a daily basis some select folders via the internet (eg Photos folder, Document Folders,etc... )... I would like this to happen on a bit-by-bit (changes only) level with some bandwidth limits in place... so the datacenter doesn't get hit with a big sync.
Anyways, I have looked at FTP that is built in, but I don't think it's going to handle the daily sync of changes and bit-by-bit syncing.
I have looked quickly at Rsync... looks like it's what I need.
But what I can't figure out is how to get the remote DNS-323 units to remotely connect to the central DNS-323 so that they can have an rSync session in the first place (all are behind NAT firewalls). The central unit is behind a firewall that has VPN (PPTP) options... so would be nice to PPTP in, but I don't see a client for the DNS-323 unit... (correct me if I am wrong). It would be great to just have them VPN in and rSync.
I would really like to have to NOT get a PC involved...
Does anyone have any suggestions? or way to solve this problem?
