CH3SNAS - Debian using USB NTFS drive - Performance issues

Hi,

I own a CH3SNAS. I've installed Debian and currently use a sata drive for backup and 2 NTFS USB drives to save less important data.

I've been noticing a small performance on write operations to the usb drives. The average write speed are in 1,2~1,8 MByte/sec.

Has anyone noticed similar effects?

I tested this by copying a file from the SATA disk to the USB NTFS and with a samba share directly.

I also came across another problem. I tried to format the Sata drive to reiserfs but the line added to fstab always causes a stop on the boot procedure. Are the reiserfsprogs incompatible with the fstab use?

I also wanted to know if it is possible to use some kind of web interface to control the nas.

By the way is it possible to use a chrooted debian install in the original firmware to mount a ntfs drive by using ntfs-3g?

Is it possible to use the original firmware to boot another kernel with enhanced support that would use the functions present in the original firmware but with better hardware support?

ntfs-3g is slow compared to native formats like ext3.

yes i know.

but reading operations are done at 7~9MBytes/sec  on the usb NTFS drive and the write at the speed that i mentioned.

I want to know if anyone confirms this diference in their setup.
