Installing + running ffp / debnas / etc on usb stick?

Hi everyone;

I'm trying to figure out how I might be able to install and run some form of linux off a USB drive, thus allowing me to freely unmount HD_* for fsck's etc. In addition, it would isolate the disks from any unnecessary spinup.

Is this possible? What is the easiest way to go about it?

Thanks!

Yes, it's possible and has been discussed many times. Search forum and wiki.
