Anyone using WDTV hacked with DNS323/321?

So i went out and purchased the WDTV Review and successfully networked (hacked) the little unit!  t's an amazing little unit for $90 bucks + the network adpater $12bucks. The unit is similar to a media center allowing you to play just about any file format!

Apparently, in order to connect the WDTV to the DNS323 i have to mount the drive in WDTV. This is the part i'm unsuccessful with.

Here is the command i'm using:

xmount //192.168.1.106/volume_1 DLINK user=username,pass=password

What happens on the TV screen of WDTV is that it states "Scanning....." but never completes.

One last note: the possibilities of this little unit seem to be growing exponentially. For entertainment it could probably become the cheapest most versatile unit on the market. I am tempted to purchase one for every TV in the house - using my DNS321 as the hub for all movies, music and pictures....

Where did you find this? The wiki has a different command: http://www.wdtvforum.com/wiki/doku.php? … _faq&s[]=xmount

Re: Anyone using WDTV hacked with DNS323/321?

correct me if i'm wrong fonz

the write up link you provide is for Windows connectivity

if i'm connecting via DNS321 - shouldn't i be linux based - ergo - username and password.

BTW, thanks for the link

//192.168.1.106/volume_1 is a windows network path. This is about protocols, not operating systems.

hah, nice catch fxfmember. i began a thread on this end because the problems seems to reside on the DNS323/321. Here is a excerpt from his findings:

This effect seems to be related to some D-Link devices and is caused by their samba account handling.
I had a special user account for my media share and this one was used in the config file. It worked for months with my xbmc but seems to have some trouble with WDLXTV and DNS-323.  After changing the access control for this share from this specific user to User/Group = ALL (valid users) but keeping this user in the config, everything worked quite fine.

What is he referring to here?

I also followed @Shadow and Foo's instruction to change the security from SHARE to USER in the wiki bettersamba with no luck.

I realize i'm using two units to talk to each other via linux but through samba?!?!?! which really confuses me. Can't i set them up to use ext2 file system?

BTW, i also tried the following which also didn't work - just thought i'd try:

xmount //192.168.1.12/mnt/HD_a2 DLINK nfs

When using NFS, you need to start the NFS server first (on your dns323: sh /ffp/start/unfsd.sh start ). Next, you most likely need to use a NFS network path (looks different than a windows network path, like here: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthre … st16143566 - note the missing "/", and the added ":"):

Code:

xmount 192.168.1.12:/mnt/HD_a2 DLINK nfs

Re: Anyone using WDTV hacked with DNS323/321?

I also just got a WDTV and used the hacked firmware so that I could network it. I have the WDTV set up to mount a NFS Server which I am using DNS-323 NAS. From this forum I learn how to upgrade to the 1.08 beta firmware and loaded the "apkg_nfs_100_beta" file so I could run a NFS Server. All looked good I can turn on my WDTV and it shows my Dlink 323. it show me my folders and media files within. But when I select a file to play it go's black and everthing seems to freeze? I understand that this may be an issue with my WDTV set-up but is there anything I could be missing on the DNS-323 end?
Thanks for any help.

Re: Anyone using WDTV hacked with DNS323/321?

I feel bad for my friend who just purchased his WDTV, got several troubles with it. It cannot support RM / RMVB (Real media video formats), slow response Remote control, it does not even include a HDMI cable.

I just made a comparison for my Ultio, it includes HDMI cable - which itself is worth atleast $10 (or maybe $50 - depending on where you buy it from). Very impressed with the speed of shifting the menu with the remote even indirectly pointing to the Ultio. It plays all codec I've thrown at it even those data I can't play with my PC.

Some points to consider..

well, im also a wdtv user, to deal with such problem, i always try a tool named Pavtube Video Converter to help me convert rm to mkv. It can keep the generated mkv file in a high quality and enables me to enjoy rm movies on wdtv.
