disabling Samba in dns-323 for Mac

Guys, I have a simple question. I have set up afp sharing in dns-323 because I exclusively use Mac computers. But everytime when I log into my mac computers, it automatically connects to the dns-323 thru samba ( I see this because when I use get info, it shows me connected as a PC server). I have connected it thru afp before where it shows up in get info as being a Server and not pc server).

Anyway.. so I wanna disable samba in dns-323 and use afp alone.. how do I do that? Must be something simple for sure.

Thanks,

at least if you can tell me how to stop samba from advertising itself, that'll help too.. I don't want any computer to see samba shares.

overwrite /etc/samba/smb.conf

killall smbd

can you explain what you mean by overwrite smb.conf? so far, I have commented out every single line in the smb.conf AND the smb.default.

Re: disabling Samba in dns-323 for Mac

I tried running samba without modifying the smb.conf files.. and then putting killall smbd in fun_plug.

The samba got killed, but it still showed the icon in mac finder... (but clicking on it didn't open anything.. which is all good).. BUT the afp version for some reason didn't show up.

so I am back to square one.. I have commented out every line on /etc/samba/smb.conf .. and /etc/samba/smb-default.conf ... and also /mnt/HD_a2/smb.conf

the samba share icon shows up in mac.. (though it's disfunctional).. but my afp share also shows up. everything is fine in this setting except for 2 things..
1. my printer connected to dns does not work (as it is tied to samba I guess).. any work around for that?
2. the samba share icon still shows up (even though it is not functioning and the afp is).

Re: disabling Samba in dns-323 for Mac

i think I may have figured it out.. I followed the instructions in the dns 323 wiki regarding installing avahi.. and bonjour...
http://dns323.kood.org/howto:mac_osx_users?s=afp

the only thing I did not do as given there is that I did not create the smb.service file.. (because I did not want samba service)..

now my mac only sees the afp service and does not display an icon for the samba.. yayyyyy
only thing to figure out now is how to make the printer attached to dns 323 work.

any help is much appreciated. thanks
