Removing mods, Factory reset and adding new hard drive to use RAID

I'm wondering, what is the right way (step-by-step) to do the following:

- add a new hard drive to my dns-323  to use RAID
- I would also like to remove all the mods I've done to my NAS (lighttpd, ffp, etc...) so that the device would be the same as a new one.
- My firmware is 1.06. so I would like to upgrade to newest firmware 1.07
- do a factory reset (to start from clean)
- start using RAID to make a copy of the old drive to my new drive (both 1,5Tb)

I have a Seagate 1,5Tb on the right slot (~700Gb reserved). The new would be same of a kind.

My aim is to keep the current hard drive plugged in constantly and every now and then I would plug in the other 1,5Tb drive to "mirror" the current drive. Why I am doing this - because of the fear of lightning or fire. I'm going to keep  the new backup hard disk in a safe and "mirror" it every now and then.

Is this the right way to do it:(??????)

1. power off
2. unplug the current drive
3. plug in the new drive (which slot???)
4. power on
5. access the web interface to do the formatting of the new drive
6. upgrade the firmware to 1.07
7. power off
8. plug in the old 1,5Tb (which slot???)

And then what? I'm scared to loose my precious data, that's why I'm asking you pros for some advice so I wouldn't  mess my stored data...

I'm very grateful in advance for your instructions and I hope this guide would help many others also.
