I have a RAID 1 array of two Seagate ST31000340AS 1TB drives. One had the bad firmware, and was upgraded. I've been using 1.08 beta 5 for maybe 4 or 5 months with no problem. The other day I rebooted the DNS-323, and when it came back up I got 2 emails. One says the volume has degraded, and the next says Left hard drive has failed. It does not show up in dmesg. I took it out and put it in a PC, and it works totally fine. I put it back in and I just get those emails every time.
Any ideas?

Oops, I forgot to mention that. I did format the drive in the PC and used it to make sure it was working fine. Still no luck when I plugged it back in.

I had a similar issue in the past with the same disks and it has cleared after a couple of DNS-323 restarts.
If it does not work for you first of all read the smartlog of the affected disk to rule out a genuine prefail condition and then reassemble the array from the command line using mdadm.

skydreamer are you still using your DNS-323 with those drives? I put the drive in the right bay and everything is working fine. There are no S.M.A.R.T. conditions. I guess the controller just went bad? I've tried power cycling the device several times and no luck. I'm wondering if I should try to get it repaired or just sadly toss it in the garbage.
