DNS and syslog server?

Hello,

any experience about running a DNS and syslog server on the DNS-323?
Could not find anything about the DNS and just a short story about syslog. Those two services would be ideal to have on the DNS. Taking care of all symbolic names in the home network and collecting error messages.

One concern about the syslog service: If the HDs are powered down, would syslog messages get lost or would they be buffered until the HDs are up?

Re: DNS and syslog server?

You can run a e.g. syslog-ng as syslog server. incoming messages will wake up the hdds (or get buffer sometime, s. sync() parameter). You might want to run ffp of a usb thumbdrive to deal with that.
