I have a DNS-323 running 2 500gb hd in raid 1, and i also have an external 1.5tb HD attached to a Windows XP machine.. Whats the best way to make incremental backups of my DNS-323 into my 1.5TB HD???

barring some professional backup software, consider using rsync (through cygwin).

Could you not simply use NTbackup.?

You mention an external 1.5tb drive and then ask about backing up to a 1TB drive - is this a typo?
Are you willing to connect the external drive to the DNS-323?
The 'best' way to make backups of the DNS-323 might be to connect an external drive to it and use rsync or similar
