why is that i can't print on an 64-bit system while i can print on an 32-bit bit system? is this a driver issue?

Re: Cannot Print on 64-bit system

I would suspect configuration or drivers - on the 64 bit system.

Since you can print from a 32 bit system we can assume that the printserver is functional - my setup process is to connect the printer directly to the system and install the print drivers and verify functionality with a direct connection and then create a local port that points to //<dns-323-ip/lp - if you use this process you should be able to determine quite easily where the problem lies.

As fordem said you need to get the printer working locally first on your 64b system over the USB or firewire. There are different printer drivers for 32b and 64b systems

Re: Cannot Print on 64-bit system

I just gotta ask this question - you're running the latest greatest 64 bit OS with a decade old printer?

Sure I understand that it probably still does everything you think you need (or want), but then I'm sure Windows 98 did too - let's see surf the internet, email, some word processing, a few spreadsheets, a database here & there, maybe some CAD and a game or two - did I miss anything?

The point is that printer technology has improved tremendously since then - HP (who are not my favourite printer manufacturer) have reformulated inks at least twice - you owe it to yourself to at least take a look.

Re: Cannot Print on 64-bit system

lol, it's because that decade old printer still has great ink reservoir. the 45ml black ink is big compared to the new ones HP releases today (except the tri-colored one). but i'm thinking that i need to change it with one of those pigment based inks epson has, the t-10 to be exact. HP pigment based ink printers are expensive.

but that generates a question that can DNS-323 support 2 printers via a USB hub? but i think i need to make a new thread out of it. big_smile

still, that printer's great for fast printing documents thou.

I got it working (two printers + a scanner) using this thread: http://dns323.kood.org/forum/viewtopic.php?id=842
