as title..
is there any program that will test the speed of my dns-323 ?
some sort of benchmark program that can be run from the NAS itself?

WAN speeds? What is it you're trying to measure?
I see no reason to try to measure WAN (Wide Area Network) speeds using a DNS-323, unless it's the only device on the LAN (Local Area Network), which I'd say is highly unlikely, it would probably be a lot easier to use a speed test utility on a PC.

What I want to figure out, is whether or not it's the NAS that has a speed problem.
As I mention, I tested download speed on my PC, and had regular speeds.. on NAS I only have 1/3 of that speed.

It helps if you keep related things in a single thread - you certainly don't mention testing anything with a PC in this thread prior to where you mention it in your second post - it also helps if your questions are clear - in the title of the thread you ask about testing WAN speed, which would be network throughput, whilst in the first post, you ask about testing the speed of the DNS-323, which is definitely something different.
Ixia offers a free network throughput testing tool called QCheck - QCheck itself won't run on the DNS-323, but, the way it works is that QCheck controls testing between selected endpoints and endpoint software is available to run on the DNS-323 as well as many other host OSs, so if you have "end-to-end" control of the WAN link across which you are downloading (or at least control over a host at the far end) you could use QCheck to measure the throughput across the WAN.
One word of caution - do not be surprised if QCheck indicates that your network throughput (LAN or WAN) is significantly higher than you expect it to be, based on what you see elsewhere - QCheck will only measure network throughput, and unless you're fortunate enough to have a gigabit WAN connection, that is unlikely to be your bottleneck.

Hi fordem.
thanks for that. Though I am not sure it helps me... meaning, I don't think I will be able to test the way you describe.
I am sure it's something on the NAS.. I have tested 2 different routers, and no changes in speeds..
I just can't figure out what might cause the problem in the first place.
