Hello,

Before to buy this DSM G600, I would like to be sure that i can install wget on it and download from it with a rapidshare user premium account. I am a Linux user, and I already download from Rapidshare with my Debian PC.
So regarding your experience, is it working fine with Wget and Rapidshare with this DSM G600, the download works like on a Linux PC.

Also, I am curious to know if the box after few hours of using is not becoming very hot. I have a Modem Router Dlink 2542B and it's hot like a barbecue .So a stuff like this with a hard dis inside, i am a little worry! And it is not to noisy?

Also, what is the Linux inside?

There is busybox wget, but you will need wget with post support, so you can crosscompile it from wget source or chroot into debian and apt-get it.
There is fan, so it will not get too hot, but you should not leave it in sunny or too warm place. Fan is small 40x40mm, so its not silent as big 120x120mm fans.

Thank you for your answer. If i read correctly your message and others from forum, i should understand that we can install Debian on the IDE hard disk. For this i should put Debian in a USB Key and boot on it to start installation. But how about a screen? How to install if no screen is connected to the G600?

When I read all the forums messsage, it looks that we have to do a lot of step by step procedure to install it. There is not a Tiny Debian that we can just install easaly like on a PC, specially made for this G600?

Sorry for the newbie question but I am totally new in this kind of wifi box.

Installing procedure for DSMG600 differs a lot from regular debian install, so no display is needed. If you are familiar with debootstrap then you should be able to install it with no problems.
Also there are two different things 1) chroot 2) hddboot. Your goal should be chroot at first. Look wiki for guide.

Hi again Sala,

Since your answers, I have been conviced to buy this Dlink. Now the problem is to find one that people agree to deliver in my country...hard task!
More since i try to buy it, i readedmany review from user, and some are very bad! Now I am doubting to buy it...
Many user complained about this D Link is: hanging (must be power of many time manually to restart it), the wifi is poor and cut many time, transfering big files is a difficult...

Yes DSM-G600 in not perfect product. My friend did bought mine from states and it was just the cheapest nas and most feature rich around then for its class + I was looking forward to hack it.
Original firmware for this device is not so great, so If you are not looking forward to make it hddboot gentoo or debian, then you should look some other device, like DNS-3xx or NSA-2xx.
