Unfortunately no one can be told what fun_plug is - you have to see it for yourself.

How do I go about getting my own software, not currently available for fun_plug, on there? Is there a process or a guide anywhere?

Install the mentioned packages and give it a try. The chroot build environment isn't required for inital try out but you may want to setup up one later for getting a clean build env.
There is also a crosscompile tutorial in the Wiki.
