Re: firmware 1.08 NFS whats the story?

Hello,

it looks like a user space NFS server as I can't see the kernel [nfsd] process while the server is running. The nfsd.ko kernel module is nowhere to be found and also it does not handle file locks properly or even at all and that's a characteristic of the user space server. In my opinion it is not of much use and so is the DNS 323 without kernel NFS.

Best regards.

Re: firmware 1.08 NFS whats the story?

I did a quick test. After downgrading to 1.08 I could no longer access my remote folders with nfs.  After upgrading back to 1.0901 beta everything works again.

if you interested the beta can be found here

Re: firmware 1.08 NFS whats the story?

I used the NFS plug-in in 1.08b9 and it worked fine, i also remember sawing [nfsd] in ps, so i think it is kernel based. Unfortunately my ffp hang after a while, so i turned off nfs, because i though it might be the reason (there were issues earlier). My ffp still hangs after a while, so probably it is something else now... smile

Re: firmware 1.08 NFS whats the story?

Any more comments on this? I'm using fonz unfs on fw 1.06 and it works really well but I was hoping that an upgrade to 1.08 would give me a kernel nfs server with better performance. Any comments on performance and reliability of the fw 1.08 nsf server would be greatly appreciated.

Re: firmware 1.08 NFS whats the story?

Not really related to 1.08 nfs, but anyhow.

I was also using the fonz unfs in 1.06. I had it mounted to a laptop with ubuntu and a mediaplayer.  I had mainly two issue. The laptop got alot of "stale nfs handles" forcing a reboot of laptop to solve. The mediaplayer had problems listing the files, sometimes only partial listings appeared.

I have moved to use a fonz created reloaded firmware of 1.04 with support for nfs. I have none of the problems above.

Dont know about performance. I am on rev B1.

Re: firmware 1.08 NFS whats the story?

I was using (and use it right now again) fonz unfs with firmware 1.07, but the network performance is too bad for watching HD-movies on my HTPC.
So I give 1.08 and the nfs-addon a try. First I was very impressed about rw-perfomance (about 20-23 MB/s), so I think the nfs-addon ist kernel based. But then I got the same results written in the D-Link-Forum, no response from the NAS after a short time. hmm

So I'm still searching for a viable solution for network access via nfs. Has anyone a solid and fast working config and can post it (/etc/exports an mounting command in /etc/fstab welcome)?
