Raid 1 and JBod

Hello community,

2 days ago i have bought a DNS-323 with two Samsung EcoGreen F2 1TB harddisks. In the weekend i wanted to configure as following:

300 GB Raid 1 (to store more critical data)
and the rest (2TB - 2x300GB = ~1.4 TB) mainly for tv records.

In the web interface i didn't find any setting to configure like this. You can only decide between those options, but not both together.

Is there a possibility to setup my NAS like mentioned above?

Thanks in advance for your comments

Re: Raid 1 and JBod

I think when you select RAID1, it prompts you for the size of the RAID1 volume and the rest is used as JBOD.  So if you select RAID1 as 300MB, then the remaining 1.4TB should show as the JBOD volume.  I can't remember for sure though.
What FW are you using?

Re: Raid 1 and JBod

Wiggs is right - you specify the size of the RAID volume and the remainder will be used to create a JBOD.

Having said that - I'd like to draw your attention to my signature - make sure you back up your critical data.

Re: Raid 1 and JBod

I made it. In the weekend i was afraid of going forward, because i read everywhere in the forum, that the disks will be formatted (when switching between raid and standard and so on). But now i selected raid 1 and on the following forms i could select also the size of the RAID. Thanks for your comments. I took screenshots to document each step (if somebody else is asking the same question in the future).

One additional question i have: at one step you can choose between "ext2 (best performance" an "ext3 (most stable)". Which file system do you recommend?

BTW i am using the newest firmware i found: 1.08.

Thanks again
